Walmart's Project Impact: A Move to Crush Competition
This story is about Wal-marts new strategy to crush there competition.(http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090909/us_time/08599192069800) Wal-mart, the worlds largest retail store, wants to take out the remaining competition, by a massive remodel, cleaner, and less cluttered stores. There goal is to have a better shopping experience for there customers. Wal-mart is taking there largest competitors like, K-mart, Target ,and Toys "R" Us, and using there own strategies against them.
I think that Wal-mart is just trying to take advantage of a bad situation. Kick when their down is all I see. Wal-mart is not in any financial trouble by any means. Its companies like Wal-mart that are killing the American dream of building a business and being successful.
Wal-mart is killing the little man, because the small business owner can't compete with there prices. I mean yes it is great to be able to have a one stop shop for convince and yes they my have lower prices then most. I think that it gives Wal-mart a bad image to take advantage of other company's that are just trying to get through rough times.
With that being said in the future when Wal-mart has all other competitors out of business, what do think prices will be? There won't be any price comparison, because there won't be anybody to compare to. Wal-mart will able to price there product higher and what choice will we have.

This article reminded me of a documentary I watched once "The High Cost of Low Price." It interviewed a lot of small business owners and showed what happens when Wal-Mart moves to their town. It's really sad that so many families businesses that have been around 50-60 years eventually crumble because people will always choose convenience and 1-stop-shopping over supporting their fellow neighbor. It's hard to remember to shop locally when everybody leads such a hectic life. If anything else this article has reminded me that convenience definitely comes with a price.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your statements. Wal-Mart is known for the kicking while others are down thing. As for shutting down target and such, there is no way no madder how hard they try are they going to succeed in putting others down, i cannot see it happening. I personally dont like shopping at wal-mart with the not so friendly cashiers and they dont always have the items needed. Whenever they are low on stock or out of stock on something it only makes them look bad. We will see what happens i guess!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that eventually the one known for the low prices won't be so low anymore once they knock everyone else out of business. And personally, I've noticed already that the so called "rollback" on prices is a scam! There have been several times I've seen an item for a certain price, the next week it goes up, then the next couple of weeks, it goes back down SLIGHTLY, and they claim to have "rolled back" the price. I try very hard to avoid Wal-Mart and I will continue to do so.
