Prodigy, 13, claims age discrimination by UConn

This blog is about a 13 year old sophomore college student, at the University of Connecticut. Yes I said 13!!! Colin Carlson is 13 and is a sophomore in college. Colin feels that he is running out of time. Colin was rejected on his request to go to South Africa for a course he was taking. According to the school they say that he is too young to go. Colin has filed an age discrimination claim against the school. "I'm losing time in my four-year plan for college," he said. They're upsetting the framework of one of my majors." According to Colin's mother the school would not let him enroll, even after she told the school that they would be release of all liability and that she would take her son at her own expense. Colin said that by not allowing him to go he would have to change his whole thesis plan.

Okay, I have a couple of mixed feelings about this whole thing. I mean I understand that the school is concern about the boy's safety, but his mother is offering to go with him. I don't agree with the school, because they know his age and that he was planning on that this course. Why didn't they say something to him at the beginning. Really what does it matter anyway if it wasn't safe for him then why is it safe for the other students. I mean the kid is ten times smarter then the rest of the class and probably some of the teachers too.

I wonder what it must be like to have a life like him. What kind of pressure he must be under. I mean I know that he is smarter then most but how is this going to affect him later in life. I mean he has never been a kid. He finished high school at the age of 11. I really feel sorry for the kid, it is not good for him to have all these pressure on him a such a early age. I have heard that people like that can go one of two ways. They either continue to get smart or they go insane. Well I hope for this young man that he finds what makes him happy and gets to live a little as a kid.

Well with this be said I think that Colin needs to stop and think that he has a long time left to do what ever he wants. I also hoes that everything works out for him in the long run.
