This is sad story of a man who was wrongly accused of something he didn't do. Almost a 100 years after his death Loe Frank makes head lines. In 1913 Frank was accused of the murder of Mary Phagan an employee of Frank. Phagan had went to the factory to collect her pay for working the previous week. Phagan was found dead around 3:00 am the next day by the night watchman, Newt Lee. Frank was later arrested for the murder due to his nervus demeanor. Frank was later convicted of the killing and sentenced to death. The night of his execution, the Governor John Slaton introduced new evidence which got his sentence reduced to life in prison. The public didn't like this decition and stormed the governors house. The mod also stormed the prison kidnaping Frank. Frank was then taken to Phagans home town and hanged. Frank was later pardoned in 1986 for the murder of Mary Phagan. “That my vindication will eventually come,” Frank is quoted as saying in the PBS documentary, “I feel certain.”
What is wrong with people? I can't imagine killing someone, and couldn't live with myself if I did. Weather Frank killed the girl or not it isn't the publics right to kill someone. I bet none of those people were held respoible for there actions. Frank was killed because he was a Jew in the south. I mean what was he thinking moving there in the first place. Don't take that wrong, I mean I have nothing against Jewish people. I am just saying look how they treated anybody that was different down south in those days.
Like I said Frank was killed because he was Jewish and an easy answer to people that wanted quick anwsers. It is sad and terrifing that some people have no respect for human life. Believe it or not this was something that was a comman practice in those days. Even our own city of Joplin is guilty of the very same thing. Yes I said Joplin, Mo! I can't remember all the details, but a young was taken from the Joplin police jail and taken to the corner of 4th and Main and hung. I mean this man was guilty, but it isn't the publics place to take the law into there own hands.
With this being said even though I don't agree with the the publics actions maybe if we things where still like that maybe people would think twice before braking the law.
